LeburgDualEI
IMPORTANT NOTE: David Robert Mickleburg of Leburg Electronics is now offering a single ignition version of the Dual EI... Contact David via E-mail for a Single Ignition price list...
It is February 1, 2002 and we have 6 hours on the engine... The Leburg EI has been a joy to install and a performer right from the start... Propping the engine is a non event as described in the Leburg documentation and we have only recharged our total loss electrical system once in 6 hours of running... The Leburg systems start flashing Low Voltage attention getting LED's hours in advance of required action - you could run this system without a volt meter in the plane and save that weight too... The dual EI is good for an extra 100 RPM at idle which is rock steady and 50 RPM at 3000... This has been the best system to work with in the whole UL project...

Danny Doolin was kind enough to weight the 009 system and this is what he reports:

Steve:
You will be happy about this. The stock ignition is heavier than you would think.
Blue Coil: 16 oz.
distributor/ electronic pickup: 17 oz.
bronze crank gear: 3 oz. (you will have to put this on too though I think)
shaft: 7 oz.
ungroundcap& rotor: 5 oz.
2 heavily booted spark wires & coil wire: 5.5 oz
= 53.5 oz = 3.3 lbs!
This is ready to run except for the hot and ground wires. Be sure you are including everything on the Leburg.

The Leburg is composed of 2 EI controllers, 2 Honda CBR 600 coils, 2 hall effect sensors with crank mounted sender disk and a wiring harness... These items with spark plug wires weigh 2.5 pounds...
The Leburg also uses a second battery for full dual backup and I have selected an Interstate PC-1212 that is mounted on top of the PC-1270 Leonard uses... Very good user documentation comes with the Leburg system and includes a complete aircraft electrical system design with an alternator... We plan to use the Bill Bronson wind generator (seen in the MISC. classifieds of the EAA Experimenter) instead of the alternator design by Leburg...
